Giving Tuesday is officially on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
Gifts to our Giving Tuesday campaign can be made beginning at 12:01am ET on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, and ending at 11:59pm ET on Friday, December 1, 2023.
What is a Challenge Champion?
A Challenge Champion is a generous member of the Waterloo campus community and beyond who makes a charitable gift of $1,000+ to inspire Waterloo alumni, parents, faculty, staff, retirees and friends to get involved during Giving Tuesday.
Is there a Giving Tuesday website?
Everything you need to know about Giving Tuesday and our challenges can be found on the University of Waterloo’s Giving Tuesday website imodules.uwaterloo.ca/giving-tuesday
Will my information be secure?
We take privacy and security very seriously. Donations to the University of Waterloo are processed by a third-party platform, Anthology Inc. We do not store any credit card information. Our website is protected by Secure Socket Layer (SSL) to ensure all data is processed securely.
I would like my gift to be anonymous. How do I ensure this happens?
Simply indicate your wishes by clicking the 'I do not wish to be publicly recognized for this gift' check box when making your gift online.
How can I donate to Giving Tuesday?
All Giving Tuesday donations must be made online at imodules.uwaterloo.ca/giving-tuesday. campaign time frame of Tuesday, November 21, 2023 and Friday, December 1, 2023 at 11:59 pm ET will be counted towards the over-arching totals; however, only gifts made between November 21, 2023 and November 28, 2023 at 11:59 pm ET will be counted towards challenges.
While we gratefully accept donations made through various methods, donations made through methods other than online donations will not count towards our Giving Tuesday totals.
This includes but is not limited to:
*Cheques, gifts of security and/or wire transfers made/mailed prior to November 28 that have been flagged to Annual Giving by appropriate unit as being specifically for a unit’s challenge may be counted.
Will I get a tax receipt for my Giving Tuesday gift?
Donors who make their gift through the Giving Tuesday website will receive an electronic tax receipt for the full value of their gift. If your gift was directed to a matching challenge, you will receive a tax receipt for the amount of your gift only and not the additional matching gift from the Challenge Champion.
Tax receipts are included in the gift confirmation email sent to you. The email has a link to download a PDF of your tax receipt. If you do not receive this email within 48 hours, check your junk/spam folder. If you have trouble downloading the PDF, please reply to the email for assistance.
To ensure your tax receipt information is correct, do not use the back button after your gift is submitted or click on your personalized email link multiple times if you are making gifts on behalf of other individuals.
What gifts will be counted towards challenges?
Gifts must be made online at imodules.uwaterloo.ca/giving-tuesday between 12:01am ET on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 and 11:59pm ET on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 to count towards a challenge goal.
If an individual donates to multiple challenges, they will be counted as a unique donor for each challenge. However, they will be counted as a single donor towards our overall Giving Tuesday donor count.
To ensure your gift is counted towards your preferred challenge, please click on the specific challenge button to make your gift.
For the purposes of a Challenge, what does “unique” donor/faculty/staff/retiree mean?
A unique donor is an individual who has made a donation through the Giving Tuesday website. If an individual donates more than once to the same challenge, they will be counted as one donor only. Our donation processor, Anthology, identifies each unique donor based on their email address.
How does an “unlock” challenge work?
A challenge is “unlocked” when the specified number of unique donors make gifts or the specified dollar amount is reached. When the challenge goal is reached, an additional dollar amount will be donated by the Challenge Champion to that fund.
How does a “match” challenge work?
A Challenge Champion has promised to “match” all individual gift amounts made to their challenge fund up to a predetermined amount. Once the maximum available for matching is reached, gifts to the fund will no longer be matched.
Can I choose where my gift goes?
If you would like your gift to support a specific challenge, you will need to direct your gift to the fund associated with that challenge. Some challenges do not have a specific fund associated with them and, in these cases, you can direct your gift to any fund you choose.
How do I give to a fund I don’t see listed?
If you don’t see a fund listed on the Giving Tuesday donation page, you have the option to type in a fund name by choosing ‘Other Fund (enter fund name below)’ and type the fund name of your choice in the text box.
Gifts made towards funds that are not listed on the Giving Tuesday donation page will not count towards fund-specific challenges but will count towards our overall Giving Tuesday totals.
I live in the U.S. How can I make my Giving Tuesday gift?
Donations must be made online at imodules.uwaterloo.ca/giving-tuesday. Only gifts made online on the Giving Tuesday website will count towards our overall Giving Tuesday totals.
Your gift will be processed in Canadian dollars. If you are a Waterloo alumnus or a family member of an alumnus, you can use your Canadian tax receipt for U.S. income tax purposes.
While we gratefully accept donations made through various methods, donations made through other methods will not count towards our Giving Tuesday totals.
Is there a minimum or maximum gift I can give on Giving Tuesday?
While we gratefully accept any amount you choose to give, we do have a minimum gift of $5.
