After Conrad Grebel Challenge #1 has been completed, any additional gifts to the Conrad Grebel Green Fund Projects (up to a total of $5,000) will be matched 1:1 for Challenge #2!
Grebel’s Green Fund will be used for capital expenses that reduce the College’s carbon footprint. Working with the Green Team at Grebel, the fund will prioritize projects that encourage students and employees to explore ‘greener’ transportation to campus.
Capital projects include better roof insulation, a new HVAC system in the academic wing, and exploring other upgrades to reduce the use of natural gas and GHG emission. Adding more EV charging stations in our parking lot is also critical. Director of Operations Paul Penner chairs the Grebel Green team. “We really need to add more stations because the use of EVs is only going to increase. Two stations will provide hook-ups for four vehicles, and this will go a long way to reduce our carbon footprint.”

“Helping to encourage other Grebelites to support this Green Fund initiative is something we feel will be important as society meets its climate change objectives and we provide a modern and technology-enabled campus for everyone at Grebel.”
As a graduate from Environment Studies, John learned about the importance of environmental issues as a student. In his professional career with the Government of Ontario, he worked in economic development and most recently in the Ministry of Enterprise, Opportunity and Innovation.
“This work, and my background in urban planning, made me aware of the need to deploy innovative technologies that enable people to make better transportation choices to support climate change. Adding more EV charging stations is critical to the adoption of clean technologies by staff and students at Grebel.”
