Grebel’s original 60-year-old residence building has been a beloved home to decades of students, but it now requires urgent improvements to the air handling systems, washrooms, and plumbing infrastructure. These essential upgrades will enhance the building's overall functionality and efficiency, and contribute significantly to our Green House Gas (GHG) reduction goals, as well as student satisfaction and comfort.
Taking these steps not only demonstrates our commitment to environmental stewardship, but also shows commitment to students, who rightly expect Grebel to respond to the climate crisis in meaningful ways.
$10,000 will help upgrade the HVAC in one residence room. With 70 rooms to renew, help us reach our goal of $700,000 to upgrade our HVAC system and improve air quality in the residence.
"We understand the importance of the Grebel residence in community life,” they explained. “This project to update, upgrade, and beautify the residence is a great opportunity to improve the quality of life for Grebel students." Jim served as Dean at Grebel from 2006-2014 and as Interim President in 2016-17. He and Goldine are generous supporters of the College and regular participants at events and concerts.
"Climate change and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction are critical issues that demand our attention. Many of the classes we take teach about the impact of climate change: how it affects global food security, health, and economic stability.
Caring about and actively working to reduce our carbon footprint aligns with Grebel’s values of stewardship and justice. Students today are the world's future leaders, and we believe that it's crucial for us to see residences such as Grebel making changes to reduce their carbon footprint so that students are aware of the issue as they become leaders."
