About UWaterloo Athletics and Recreation

The Department of Athletics and Recreation at the University of Waterloo was founded in 1957 with the mission to provide exceptional, diverse and well-supported recreational and high-performance sport opportunities for students within a collaborative environment that fosters the achievement of one's individual potential. We offer one of the most broadly based inter-university programs in the country with 36 varsity teams competing for provincial and/or national titles, 30+ sports clubs, and a wide range of intramural and recreational opportunities and programming.

Waterloo’s students are the best, brightest and most ambitious in the country. To realize their dreams, alongside a world class academic environment, our remarkable students need a vibrant student experience within a supportive and connected campus community. As a recognized national leader, our diverse set of programs and services, including intramural, recreation and wellness programming, promotes physical and mental health and well-being, instills discipline, teamwork, leadership and entrepreneurial skills required to succeed academically and professionally, and connects the campus community. Athletics Priorities

Your generous support of the Athletics Development Fund provides Athletics and Recreation with the flexibility to direct your gift where the need is greatest as we aim to enrich the student experience, promote wellness and inspire all Warriors to reach their full potential.

This fund will support efforts to address under-representation and equitability through enhanced programming, training, education, student-athlete support and community initiatives to ensure every student-athlete, recreation participant, coach and staff member feels supported and valued.

The Warriors Recreation Fund, formerly known as Campus Rec, continues to be one of the largest campus recreation programs in the country, providing University of Waterloo students with the important opportunity to build social networks and community through shared interests, gain leadership skills, be physically active and take a break from their studies. With over 30 sports clubs and a wide range of intramural and recreational opportunities and programming, students of all abilities, backgrounds and experiences can find something of interest which allows them to balance their academic pursuits with their mental health and physical well-being needs.

The Women’s Sport Initiative Fund provides direct support for female student-athletes and coaches through increased investment in female coaching and professional development, support for teams and individuals participating in national and international tournaments and championships like the FISU games and the Olympics, award receptions and other unique initiatives.

This fund will allow our sports clubs to enhance their programming and provide numerous opportunities for members of the University of Waterloo community to get involved with a variety of clubs. Joining a club is a great way for students to establish social connections, develop new skills and stay physically active.
