About UWaterloo Environment

As a member of the Faculty of Environment community, you are part of Canada’s largest and most influential community of global changemakers. Guided by Waterloo at 100 and our Environment 2035 strategic plan, we are tackling climate change, future cities, natural resource management and sustainable transitions through bold research, innovation, education and action. As a Faculty of Environment alum, you experienced hands-on-learning, collaborated with industry, nonprofits and government and helped drive real-world impact.


The Future Cities Institute

The University of Waterloo's Interdisciplinary Capstone (i-Capstone) Future Cities course is redefining experiential learning by bringing students and industry together to tackle today’s most pressing urban challenges. Industry partners present real-world problem statements, and interdisciplinary student teams collaborate to develop innovative solutions in areas like sustainable housing, infrastructure and mobility. Guided by faculty and industry mentors, students gain hands-on experience, build professional connections and enhance their problem-solving skills. This unique program fulfills Capstone requirements across multiple faculties and offers opportunities to win prizes sponsored by the Future Cities Institute founded by CAIVAN.
