I don’t want to use a credit card. How else can I make my gift?

To make a gift by cheque, please mail it to Office of Advancement, University of Waterloo, 200 University Ave. W., Waterloo, ON N2L 3G1.

To make a gift by phone, call us at 519-888-4567 ext. 32036 or 1-800-408-8715.

What is a single gift?

A one-time gift that will be charged to your credit card immediately.

What is a recurring gift?

An ongoing monthly, quarterly, or yearly gift that will continue until you let us know you would like to change or cancel the gift. You can indicate the frequency in the ‘Frequency of Gift’ area.

I want to make a monthly recurring gift. Can I decide when my credit card will be charged?

Yes. Choose the 1st or the 15th from the drop-down menu. NOTE: Your first payment will be charged immediately. If today’s date is before the 15th, your next payment will be processed next month. If it’s after the 15th, your next payment will be processed in two months. There will be a minimum 30 days between payments.

How will I get my tax receipt?

After your online single gift has been processed, within the hour you will receive an email with a link to download your PDF receipt. You can download the receipt from your email at any time. Gifts made via cheque will have a tax receipt mailed to you. For recurring gifts, all of your monthly gifts will be consolidated into one receipt that’s mailed to you in February each year. If you have any concerns about your tax receipt, call the Office of Advancement at 1-800-408-8715 or email us.

How do I let you know I’m making a gift with my spouse or partner?

Indicate their name in the black bar ‘Is this a joint gift with your spouse/partner?’ (bottom of the Personal Information page). NOTE: The charitable tax receipt will be issued only to the individual making the gift transaction.

How do I make a gift on behalf of my company using a business credit card?

If you are using your company credit card, enter the company name, address, and contact details in the BILLING section. Please divide the company name between the first and last name fields, as both fields are required. Ensure that you also check the “This is a corporate gift” button on the donation form.

How do I know if my company will match my gift?

Click on the grey bar 'Does your employer match charitable donations' and search your employer.

What is the Waterloo Fund?

It’s an unrestricted general fund which supports the University’s most pressing needs.

How can I split my gift between areas?

On the Gift Information page, choose "I would like to support another area". In the new window, check the boxes of the areas you wish to support.

How do I give to a project I don’t see listed?

Select ‘I would like to support another area’ for a larger list of funds, or select ‘Other Fund (enter name below)’ and type in the name of the fund in the text box.

Where can I learn about how my charitable gift will be used?

Visit Support Waterloo.

How can I find out more about including the University in my estate plans?

Click on the selection box beside “Please send me information about making a gift in my will” or visit our Wills & Future Gifts page.

I want to fulfill a sponsorship obligation. Can I do this online?

No, but thank you for your support. Please contact us at 1-800-408-8715 or by email.

I live in the U.S. Can I still make a gift online?

Yes. Your gift will be processed in Canadian dollars. If you are a Waterloo alumnus, or a family member of an alumnus, you can use your tax receipt for U.S. income tax purposes. Or, if you prefer, you can give to our U.S. foundation, Friends of the University of Waterloo Foundation.

How do I ensure my name will not be shared publicly?

Check the box 'I do not wish to be publicly recognized for this gift’ directly after the Gift Type options.

Will my information be secure?

We take security very seriously. We work with a third-party platform, Anthology Software, Inc. (formerly iModules Software, Inc.), to ensure your information is secure. We do not store any credit card information. At the point in your transaction where you enter secure information, you will see https://imodules.uwaterloo.ca in your browser.

What is Address Verification Service (AVS)?

AVS is a security measure performed by credit card providers, comparing billing information provided to what is on record with the bank. Donations are subject to Address Verification performed on the postal/ZIP code that is provided, to ensure that the credit card being used is valid.
