Be a part of the ripple effect! Help University of Waterloo students and members of Six Nations co-create a reconciliation‑focused learning experience in the Grand River watershed through a bike tour that connects communities and water.
The Faculty of Environment is partnering with Water Cycles Expeditions, Two Row on the Grand, and Six Nations Tourism to offer a 10 day bicycle tour traveling along the Grand River, from Cambridge to Port Maitland (July 15–24, 2026), honouring the Two Row Wampum and the Silver Covenant Chain in the spirit of peace, friendship and respect.
The tour will take place alongside Two Row on the Grand (http://www.tworowonthegrand.com/),an initiative that started in 2016 to paddle from Cambridge to Port Maitland each summer, sharing the river, meals, campgrounds and cultural/environmental teachings each day. In 2026, a growing partnership will add a bike tour that weaves alongside the paddling experience. Participants will paddle, pedal, learn with Indigenous knowledge keepers and build meaningful relationships rooted in the history and teachings of the Grand River watershed.
Why your support matters
We aim to fully support the piloting and development of this new partnership by creating a seed fund that will support the new partnership of Water Cycles Expeditions, Two Row on the Grand and Six Nations Tourism. Funds will ensure participation for a volunteer crew of 10 participants, including UW students and members of Six Nations.
The cost per participant is $1500. Your gift will support meals, camping, equipment, support vehicles and honoraria for Indigenous educators—helping ensure no one is prevented from joining due to financial barriers. It will also set the foundation for future years with an aim of expanding to support more participation across the UW, Six Nations, and watershed communities.
