The University of Waterloo condemns all forms of violence, hatred and bigotry, and we are committed to fostering an inclusive, safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Donations to the Gender and Social Justice Program fund will provide support to enrolled students and faculty who are studying, researching and working in solidarity to build inclusive, just and sustainable communities, both locally and globally. The courses taught in the Gender and Social Justice Program cultivate awareness and a deeper understanding of the experiences of people marginalized by factors such as gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, disability and socio-economic class. More than this, students learn to use the theoretical framework of intersectional feminism to critically analyze social structures, systems, and institutions.
In the aftermath of the attack on June 28, 2023 which targeted members of a Gender and Social Justice class at the University of Waterloo based on hateful views of gender identity and expression, it is critical to provide space and support for students and scholars who work in gender and social justice studies. With the recent surge of intolerance for marginalized populations, it is vitally important to join in solidarity with those engaging in important work for a fairer and more just world. Donations to the Gender and Social Justice Program fund are a powerful opportunity to learn, engage and take positive action, across university campuses and in our communities.
Donations will be used to support activities and initiatives such as student or faculty led community building activities, awards to recognize student accomplishments, student experiential activities, speaker series, guest lecturers and student grants for research projects.
