The Carey Bissonnette Memorial Scholarship has been established to honour the legacy of a man who had an incredible impact on the lives of students for more than two decades. His unparalleled dedication to chemistry and education will be sorely missed by the Department of Chemistry, his colleagues, students and anyone who had the privilege to know him.

Carey was the very first Lecturer in the Faculty of Science, appointed in 1995, and quickly established his reputation as an outstanding instructor and mentor for students and colleagues alike. He was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award in 2005, after several teaching awards within the Chemistry department recognized his talent and passion for teaching. He was a tireless advocate for students and their learning, serving as an Academic Advisor for Chemistry over the last 20 years, as a Teaching Fellow from 2012-2016, and since then, as the Senior Teaching Fellow for the Faculty of Science.

The Carey Bissonnette Memorial Scholarship will be offered annually to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in Year Four in the Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Science. The student must have a minimum cumulative average of 80% and have demonstrated superior commitment to undergraduate research or teaching. Donations large and small are gratefully accepted to increase the value and impact of this endowed scholarship.
