Gaby Barsky was a computer science student at the University of Waterloo. He completed multiple co-op terms at the UW alumni-led tech start up, Athos, where he was poised to become the VP of Software. Though Gaby was with us for only twenty short years, he lived more fully in those twenty than do many over their entire lives. He was passionate about community, mentoring youth, travel, and adventure. He had rare talents in athletics and a true generosity of spirit. Gaby was the most wonderful twin brother, son, grandson, great-grandson, colleague, and friend. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
A letter from Gaby's friends and family:
It has been several years since the tragic passing of our Gaby. In that time, we have seen an outpouring of love and support for the Barsky family. It is a testament to the strength of our community, but also to Gaby's remarkable character and the enormous number of lives that he touched.
We have been working hard to commemorate Gaby's life and to contribute to his legacy. As part of this effort, we are looking to grow the Gaby Barsky Memorial Scholarship, with the help of his alma mater, the University of Waterloo.
Thanks to your kindness and generosity, the scholarship has been endowed, which ensures it lives on in perpetuity to assist future generations of students.
Now, we would like to take this scholarship to the next level by increasing the endowment to $300,000, allowing the fund to support even more students who share Gaby's love of life and brilliant potential, and raising the dollar value of the awards.
If you would like to make a contribution to the scholarship, however small or however large, we would be so grateful. All contributions qualify for a charitable donation receipt and may act as a credit towards your federal and provincial tax burden. All contributions can be made directly from this webpage.
With love,
Friends and Family of Gaby Barsky
