The Earth 20/20 Endowment Fund
Students solving important issues in the real world
Working in the field and trying to find ways to remediate abandoned mines is a clear win for Joanne, a MSc student in Earth Sciences. It’s her dream to pursue a career in this industry. She attributes her love of field work to the field training courses she obtained at uWaterloo and from the opportunities she had from peers and mentors to receive that training in the field itself. She happily passes that along to the co op students she has on site every chance she gets.
“Field courses make everything that we learn in class suddenly applicable. It gives you this desire to understand more, to ask more questions, and to get excited about putting the knowledge you've spent years learning to actual use. It also provides this practical, hands-on aspect of learning that you just can't get in a classroom.” – Joanne A.
