Be resilient. Be healthy.

From day to day, you might fill the role of a student, parent, caregiver, or one of many other roles. Regardless of the one (or many!) you play, we all face the challenge of keeping well.

In this workshop, you will learn strategies for managing stress, burnout and improving your mental and physical health. Join Naturopathic Doctor Whitney Baxter (BSc ’10) and physiotherapist Surabhi Vietch (BSc ’09) as they share actionable strategies related to movement, nutrition and breath work.

Speakers

Surabhi Veitch - Surabhi Veitch is a Physiotherapist, a Pregnancy & Postpartum Fitness Coach, and owner of her online business, The Passionate Physio. She helps people stay active, navigate injuries, and feel strong and confident through pregnancy, postpartum and beyond. As a 2009 Kinesiology alum, Surabhi fondly remembers her time spent at Waterloo. She was an active member of the many student groups and intramurals, trained with the Varsity Cross Country ski team, and was a huge fan of dance parties. She currently lives in Toronto with her husband and 2 young kids and loves to find ways to integrate movement into her everyday life.

Whitney Baxter - Whitney is a naturopathic doctor in Victoria, BC. Her journey to naturopathic medicine began after working as an exercise physiologist in cardiac rehabilitation. She witnessed the value of a holistic approach to health care and understood that each individual’s physical, mental, and emotional health are interconnected. As a naturopathic doctor, her goal is to ensure people feel heard and help to alleviate PMS, indigestion, anxiety and fatigue. Treatment plans may include dietary counselling, sleep support, acupuncture, herbal medicine and/or supplements. She lives with her husband and their 9-month-old daughter. She loves to run, rock climb and play outside in the mountains!

Moderator

Lili Liu - Lili Liu is a professor in the School of Public Health and Health Systems, and dean of the Faculty of Health at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Dr. Liu earned degrees in BSc (Occupational Therapy), MSc and PhD (Rehabilitation Science), at McGill University. She began her academic career at the University of Alberta where she also served as chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy prior to joining the University of Waterloo.

Liu advances health-care technology through her leadership roles in research, administration, service and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, as well as post-doctoral fellows. She maintains an externally funded research program that examines acceptance and adoption of technologies by older adults, their care partners, health care professionals, and unlicensed care personnel.

Liu engages with community organizations, and policy and decision makers. Alzheimer Societies, search and rescue personnel, dementia advocacy and caregiver associations, nationally and internationally, are partners in her research program.

Liu is an AGE-WELL network investigator, and her current research program examines the applications of technologies and other innovations to mitigate risks of going missing among persons living with dementia. Her team focuses on approaches to inform and implement policies that create safe environments for older adults.

This event is being hosted in celebration of International Women’s Day.
