Giving Tuesday 2022: A Recap

An act of generosity on one day can have a significant and lasting impact

A special thank you to our alumni who participated in Giving Tuesday on November 29, 2022. Through your acts of generosity, the Faculty of Arts raised $56,390 which will directly support the learning experience of our students through scholarships and co-op work terms.

Savananah Mastrotto
Your gifts allowed Savannah, a third-year Psychology student, to participate in a not-for-profit work term with Carizon this Winter term.

"I applied to Carizon’s Social Planning Assistant role because I was hoping to gain work experience that would allow me to develop skills applicable to a work environment in the social sciences. I found myself engaging in team discussions early in my time at Carizon. I’ve attended meetings and made suggestions for new reflection/prayer rooms spaces, and worked on finding ways to increase attendance for a community tutoring initiative! It has been a very exciting and rewarding experience. I feel like my contributions are valued by the team and resonate with their organizational goals."

Colin Danby
At the Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business, nine awards of $500 were awarded to students. Two students in each year of the Global Business and Digital Arts (GBDA) program received awards, along with one student in the Master of Digital Experience Innovation (MDEI).

MDEI student Colin shared that he really values the school's unique blend of creative and business-oriented learning, and its commitment to a human-centered approach to technology.

“This approach is a unique one, and one that is more aligned with my passions, goals, and aspirations than any other graduate level education available. The scholarship I have received will allow me to invest in additional resources to enhance my academic performance, and ultimately, achieve my future goals. I am incredibly grateful to the generous donors for their support and encouragement.”

Chantal Wai
GBDA student Chantel shared, “At the University of Waterloo and the Stratford School creativity is continuously nurtured. The institution and its programs provide excellent support for the development of diverse projects, and as an aspiring Content Creator, I am fortunate to have access to resources that enable me to fund my personal and academic endeavors, broaden my creative perspective, and reach my objectives. I am profoundly thankful for being awarded the Stratford School 10-Year Anniversary Scholarship and being part of a supportive community consisting of faculty, colleagues, and contributors who make everything possible.”

At the School of Accounting and Finance, your gifts supported our PhD support fund, as well as the Accounting and Finance Endowment Fund (AFEF).

SAF student, Alexandra, is Chair of the AFEF and has shared on behalf of the full team, “We thank everyone who participated in Giving Tuesday! The AFEF aims to support initiatives within the SAF to enhance the student educational experience and greatly appreciates all donations made.”
