Are you curious about how to navigate a career transition between different roles or industries? The Recent Engineering Alumni Council invites you to a round table discussion with UWaterloo Engineering Alumni Kimberley Kadour (BASc ‘00) and Megan Walker (BASc ‘13). Kimberley and Megan will share their experience with navigating career transitions and leveraging expertise across industries. Register to attend this virtual discussion and interactive Q&A session! We invite Waterloo Architecture Alumni of the greater Vancouver area to come together to connect over a casual night of refreshments. Alumni will hear some important updates from the School, as well as have the opportunity to mix and mingle with other Waterloo Architecture graduates. Modern astronomy seeks to understand how galaxies seen in the local Universe formed in the thirteen billion years since the Big Bang. Computer simulations can successfully reproduce the structure of the Universe on large scales but typically fail when we zoom in on individual galaxies. In particular, the largest galaxies are predicted to be awash with cold gas and young stars, when in reality they are gas-poor and dormant. Additional physics is needed. Known as feedback, the high-energy processes around supermassive black holes are thought to drive gas out of galaxies and shut down star formation. These black holes lie at the centre of every galaxy, including our Milky Way, but we do not yet understand how they can limit the growth of an entire galaxy. I will review our understanding of feedback, our recent discoveries with current telescopes and the exciting potential of the newly launched XRISM observatory. Amidst the discussion, take the esteemed opportunity to extend your greetings and pay tribute to Brian McNamara, a distinguished figure in the field. Your presence is eagerly anticipated for this momentous occasion. We can't wait to welcome you back to campus for a very special celebration!
